Council loses appeal over plan to turn Telford offices into flats

Telford & Wrekin Council officers had refused permission for the former Wrekin Housing Trust building at The Parade saying that it did not have its own dedicated parking.

Building owner Lewis Jones had appealed against the decision and a planning inspector has agreed with an assessment that the local streets had enough empty spaces to cope.

MP asks for clarity on single sex spaces

Mark Pritchard MP said: “The NHS says it is waiting for EHRC guidance, but it is the Equality Act that organisations must comply with, and the position in law has already been made crystal clear by the Supreme Court judgment.

“To ensure safety and privacy, in particular for women and girls, single sex spaces must be protected in NHS hospitals and other NHS facilities.”

Council ahead in its plans to become carbon neutral

By the end of March 2025 Telford & Wrekin Council had reduced its carbon emissions by 63 per cent compared to 2018-19, the cabinet will be told next week.

The figure – some eight per cent ahead of where it was expecting to be at this stage – has been achieved by a range of measures in homes, leisure centres, and offices.

Telford & Wrekin Council is considering making £20 million in cuts next year even if it maxes out the amount it can raise in council tax.

The local authority expects to set a revenue budget of £233.453 million for 2026-27 to cope with the rising cost of social care.

Finance officers report that approximately 70 per cent of the total net budget is now dedicated to protecting the most vulnerable residents.

‘Clarity’ sought after concerns raised over future of Telford solar farm hedges

Objections from members of the public included an opponent of the solar farm who wrote: “Ripping out a hedge adjacent to this very busy rat run in January will cause considerable disruption.

Dawley students turn reporters for writing contest

Year 6 pupils at Captain Webb Primary School in Dawley have been showcasing their creative talents this month. The school recently reached out to share the work of their young writers following a similar project held last year.

The winning entry from Ariella was a completely independent piece of work. She described the student as a talented writer and said the school is excited to see what she creates in the future.
