Dawley Spoken Word – Taters
In a kitchen at Stone Row, Hinkshay back in 1963 a conversation was taped, possibly surreptitiously, between Grandad Oakley and Uncle Ken Oakley. The subject was taters (potatoes) and the art of growing them.
Listen to the recording Dawley Taters:
Stone Row was demolished in the following few years, but you can see a photo of Stone Row here. On another local site, Richard Foxcrofts most excellent Telford.org.uk, if you scroll down the bottom to the contributions, you can read a little more about the Oakleys of Stone Row.
I’m indebted to Berry Oakley for letting me use this recording, and share it with you, although I must confess even with the aid of the Dawley Dictionary, I’m struggling with the detail!
