Wellington Charter Day

Wellington Charter Day

Back in 1244, Wellington Market was granted its Royal Charter. The Kings Messenger arrived on horseback, and immediately, local residents complained about the state of his parking.

Some things never change, but the arrival of the Kings Messenger on horseback will be recreated on 7th March and for me, Charter Day marks the end of Winter and summer is just around the corner.

If a man in tights on a horse is not your bag, then there is always cakes in the pub. The grand scone-off takes place in The Pheasant in Market Street.

The former is a super family spectacle with Morris Dancing and the Town Crier, how the latter has not yet descended into fisticuffs over the jam then butter/butter then jam debate, I'll never know.

See you there.
