Major road upgrades planned for Telford next year
Residents across Telford and Wrekin will see a fresh wave of road improvements as the council sets out its transport plans for 2026. Following a year of resurfacing work, the focus is now shifting to new pedestrian crossings and major roundabout upgrades.
A new pedestrian crossing is scheduled for Finger Road in Dawley. This follows ongoing efforts to improve safety for those walking and cycling through the borough.
In Lightmoor, the council is working with Bournville Village Trust. The project involves resurfacing and formal adoption of the roads to ensure long-term maintenance.
Shoppers in Wellington will see changes to the pedestrian area. Infrastructure work is also planned for Apley and Haybridge roundabouts to help manage traffic flow in the town.
Rural routes are included in the programme too. Retaining wall repairs are planned for Coalmoor Road, situated between Little Wenlock and The Wrekin.
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “2025 has been another successful year for our infrastructure improvements across Telford and Wrekin.
“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished this year and look forward to building on this momentum in the years ahead.”
The council reported a 23 per cent drop in pothole reports this year. Workers repaired 1,872 potholes across the network during 2025.
Officials claim the proactive strategy has led to the area having some of the highest rankings in the National Highways and Transport survey.
We need traffic slowing methord on Vineyard Road in wellington or a pedestrian crossing between the island of Springhill and the junction with Vineyard Drive.
I pointed this out with the park councillor Paul Davis regarding speed humps as per King Street only to be told he was informed no because it a direct road into the town but King St was not
Coalmoor Road is between Little Wenlock and Horsehay, not Little Wenlock and The Wrekin!
I have complained several times about speeding cars on Waterloo Road, this in where the kids cross to go to school, its very busy.
Speed sensors were put on the road but removed two weeks later, no indication of any form of speed reduction!
The old buildings need to go back to houses which would look much better more pleasing to the eye. The stores should be built over the top of the streets
