Telford MP Welcomes £5 Million in New Funding for Local Bus Services

Telford MP has welcomed the announcement of £5,047,995 in new Government funding support improving local bus services across the town.

The funding could help make fares cheaper, plan new routes, support cleaner zero-emission buses, and improve the safety and accessibility of bus stops. The MP said the investment is a much-needed boost for local passengers who rely on affordable and dependable public transport.

Shaun commented: “I’m really pleased to see more than £5 million coming to Telford for our bus services. Reliable and affordable buses are vital for people across our town and this money is a positive step forward. It can help lower fares, improve routes and make bus travel safer and greener.”

“This Government is giving communities the power and the funding they need to take back control of their buses. Telford & Wrekin Council already runs a number of successful council-led bus services, which many residents depend on. These council-operated routes have reconnected areas that private companies previously stopped serving and have provided passengers with more stable, community-focused services.

“I’ve always said that bringing more of our bus network under local control would be better for everyone. It means routes, timetables and standards can be shaped around what local people actually need and not what makes the most money.”

“But too many parts of Telford are still not getting the service they deserve. That came through clearly in the bus survey I ran recently where residents told me loud and clear that things need to improve.”

Charlotte from Madeley commented: “As a young person in Telford, getting around can be a real challenge. Buses are generally reliable, but there aren’t enough of them. We need more routes.”  Residents have also told their MP they would benefit from more bus services after 8pm and also at a weekend.

Shaun added: “I’ll keep working with ministers, the council, and transport partners to make sure this new funding leads to real, long-term improvements for bus users in Telford.

By not driving you are saving yourselves rather a lot of money.
Apart from the fuel costs the price paid for the carand the other overheads, maintenance, insurance. road tax etc could be utilised for taxis 🙂
