Close Madeley Court Hotel, says Telford MP

Shaun Davies MP is demanding that the Government closes Madeley Court asylum hotel and returns it to the community.

Telford’s Member of Parliament has renewed his call this morning for the immediate closure of Madeley Court Hotel, which continues to be used to accommodate asylum seekers, and has urged Ministers to hand the site back for use by the local community.

Shaun Davies has repeatedly warned that the long-term use of hotels in Telford to house asylum seekers is unsustainable, and unfair on local residents, placing unnecessary pressure on already stretched local services. He is now calling on the Government to shut the hotel, which was opened under the Conservative government as part of Robert Jenrick’s hotel policy, and to draw a line under the use of hotels for asylum accommodation in Telford.

In recent days, Shaun Davies has met with the Prime Minister at Downing Street and Home Office Ministers to demand the closure of Madeley Court, its return to community use, and a firm guarantee that Telford will not be used again for further Home Office accommodation.

Shaun Davies MP said: “This Government is starting the job of rebuilding communities and delivering the investment that Telford has been denied for far too long. But residents are rightly concerned that Madeley Court continues to operate as an asylum hotel.

“I have raised this issue relentlessly since my election. Hotels are simply not the right place to house people in the asylum system and this failed policy has caused real disruption for local people. Enough is enough, it’s time to give Telford back its hotel.”

The renewed call comes as South Telford prepares to benefit from major Pride in Place investment, aimed at regenerating neighbourhoods, improving public spaces, and restoring pride in local communities.

Shaun Davies added: “Pride in Place investment will make a real difference in South Telford, but that progress risks being undermined if we don’t deal with the mess left behind by the last Government. Closing Madeley Court is essential if our community is to fully move forward and benefit from the investment coming its way.”

Shaun Davies MP has urged residents to back the campaign and says he will continue to press Ministers for a clear and urgent timetable to end the use of hotels for asylum accommodation in Telford once and for all.

You should ask them if they have any vacancies as you’ll be out of a job at the next general election
