Telford man sentenced for restraining order breach and assault

Scott Carrington, 25, of Spout Way, Malinslee, appeared before magistrates on 16 March to face multiple charges following an incident on 15 February 2026.

The court heard that Carrington entered a street in Lightmoor, an area he was prohibited from visiting under the terms of a restraining order imposed just weeks earlier in January.

During the breach, Carrington assaulted a woman by beating her and caused criminal damage to her property, specifically destroying a television screen and a picture canvas valued at £160. He also stole a set of door keys belonging to the same victim.

Carrington pleaded guilty to charges of breaching a restraining order, assault by beating, criminal damage, and theft in a dwelling. Magistrates stated that the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.

For the breach of the restraining order, he was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for 24 months. He received further suspended sentences of eight weeks for the assault and four weeks for the criminal damage, all to run concurrently. No separate penalty was issued for the theft of the keys.

As part of the suspended sentence order, Carrington must complete up to 15 days of rehabilitation activity.

The court also varied the existing restraining order, which now prohibits him from contacting the victim until January 2029.

He was ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
