Last time the public in Telford were asked for their views on the licensing of pubs, clubs and events the council received just one single, solitary, lonely response, a meeting heard.

Licensing policies have to be reviewed every five years and set out the rules Telford & Wrekin Council has on who can hold a booze licence, which premises can be used to sell intoxicating liquors, and the granting of permits for music and other events.

Council officers have acted within weeks after receiving a complaint that a residential property in Telford is allegedly being used for the unauthorised operation of a business.

The council says the allegation is that there has been the “unauthorised operation of a business from a residential property”.

Leading Shropshire construction company McPhillips has become the first construction firm in the county to be accredited as a Real Living Wage employer.

The Telford-based company’s commitment will see all 240 of its directly employed workforce receive a minimum hourly wage of £12.60, higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £12.21 per hour.
