Own a Piece of Local History

A call has gone out to anyone in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin and beyond who supports and enjoys the Arts.

The group behind the campaign to create a community arts centre in the former Clifton Cinema and Saverite supermarket has launched a Community Share Issue. The intention is to raise half a million pounds to make a serious offer to purchase the buildings before work can commence to conserve and convert them. Speaking about the launch, Chair of the Trustees, Bill Graham said:

“We’ve been planning this for some time. This is an important step. We’re often asked by people ‘What can we do to help?’, well, now we can say buy shares and be part of the project. You can help us make the dream a reality.”

Anyone buying shares will have a vote in the future running of The Clifton. Shares are priced at £1 with a minimum order of ten shares and subscribers need to be over 16. The upper limit for purchasing shares is £20,000 though the group would still welcome larger donations from individuals, trusts and companies.

The share issue is open for the next six months and details can be found online at www.theclifton.org or at a number of shops and businesses in Wellington who have copies of the share leaflet.
