Parking Cameras Live in Wellington

The Market Street car park, owned by Wilkinsons is one of the biggest carparks in Wellington and very conveniently located right in the centre of town.  This week, new ANPR cameras and information signs were erected to help enforce the parking restrictions.

This car park has in the past had a chap sitting in the box taking payments, although he long since left. Since then the car park’s two hour limit has been poorly enforced, although all this about to change with the new ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera system.

ANPR systems will photograph your car on entry and take a note of the registration number.  It will do the same on your exit and work out just how long you have been there.  If you have been in there longer than the allowed two hours, then you can expect a fine in the post for £100.

While Wilkinsons are responsible for the car park, they are not able to discuss the fines in the store, so if you do get caught, then you’ll have you take it up with the enforcement company.

Forcing a two hour maximum stay, should help improve the turnover and therefore the availability of spaces for shoppers in the town.
