Funeral appeal for Wellington Man

Funeral appeal for Wellington Man

A campaign to cover funeral costs for homeless Wellington man has been started by his sister.

Tim Slater, often seen in Wellington & Telford Shopping Centre until recently passed away at the end of last month.

His niece, Lauren, told Telford Live "my uncle suddenly died. He was homeless so has no money put aside for a funeral, it’s all left to my mum…A lot of people in Telford know him and would’ve recognised him from Wellington & Telford area. He was loved by a lot of people."

Tim's sister, Nicky, is trying to raise £3000.

    • He had several houses provided by social services and offered lots of help. He even had a specifically adapted bungalow given to him. His addiction overpowered him unfortunately.

  • Daisy Gilham Before you judge; I suggest you find out the facts!!

His family tried extremely hard to help him, home him and look after him but sadly his demons meant he just wouldn’t accept help!!

His family loved him dearly and couldn’t have done any more!!!

    • Just heard about Tim. I knew him growing up in Overdale when the days were good. He had loads of action man toys and even started work at a youth center in Bennets bank, Ketley. I always though he was cut out for the army, but im very sad to here he never beat his demons.

      Goodbye Tim.

  • I’d like to no how daisy is being judgmental? There’s nothing judgemental in what she has asked

  • Before people start with the negative comments, know the facts and the back story first . It’s easy to judge something you know nothing about !

  • R.I.P Tim. Hope you manage to get enough for a good send off. Regardless of the situation he was polite when i got him a cup of tea once & my Mum remembers him when he was younger & used to play football with my uncle

  • Let’s not turn this into a slanging match, people who knew Tim, and know his family know the facts, other people’s opinions don’t matter,it’s a post asking if people would like to help towards his send off, let’s not make it into something sordid. People will always have opinions let’s not rise to it.

  • This is really sad for all parties no one should be forced into debt from a loved one dying… I hope you can give him the send if you all want and need for some peace of mind! He lived on the streets the least we could do is give him a peaceful resting place surely?

  • He was not a nice man. Drunk and abusive. One day he was shouting abuse 2 my then 6 year old daughter. I soon put him in his place!

  • I knew Tim back in the 90s, he was in to his body building back then and was a true bonafide gentle giant. He had a booming laugh almost like Frank Bruno. He used to drink in the White Lion with us. It was different times back then, we were different people and he made some choices which I guess he couldn’t recover from. It happened to so many of the crew who were the regulars in the bar there, countless funerals over the years. I remember he used to look out for a young lad with learning difficulties who used to bullied. Tim would let him tag along so people would see this big unit with this lad and think twice about taking advantage, I admired him for this. I made a conscious decision to get out of there in my early 20s, 25 years ago. I lost track of Tim but would hear about him from time to time. He was a good soul and this is thought provoking news. Rest easy Tim Slater Peace x

  • RIP Tim. He was a great guy. Went to school with him many years ago. Used to go and see him on and off. We all have our destiny to follow. It’s a time of loss for the family. We should all help to give Tim a deserving funeral. May you rest in peace.

  • I only knew Tim for a short while but he looked after me when I was in a dark place. He loved his music and he would reel off Ace of Spades like nobody’s business. He was legendary in his own right. I will miss you Tim. RIP.X
