Coal runs out of steam

Coal runs out of steam

It appears that Southwater restaurant, Coal Bar & Grill has closed with immediate effect.

The restaurant today took all the menus inside and stacked up the chairs and tables, and are not accepting any further bookings 'for the foreseeable future'.

The restaurant is part of a small chain, the Telford branch opening in November 2014. Coal Bar & Grill is open in seven other locations which are still trading.

If staff are looking for new jobs, please check the comments.

Maybe it’s a different issue why they have had to close if other restaurants in the chain are still open

Drop the rates and make it more appealing to independents. Not everyone wants large chains that you can go anywhere for. Pop up street food stalls, craft ales and wood fired pizzas would be my suggestion.

I can’t help wondering whether the presence of all those pop up outlets at the Christmas market contributed to this closure ?
I do agree that there are far too many chain outlets in Southwater, which is why I don’t eat there.

100% agree. Telford is crying out for a craft beer bar, not more chains

I hate seeing the negative comments about Southwater. It is absolutely amazing that Telford has such a great place to go out, people travel to come here now, and we have somewhere to go without leaving the town. So much better than many other towns.

I cannot stand Telford town centre and Southwater.
My New Year Resolution is to not go there in 2020.
