Jacob Rees-Mogg MP in Ironbridge visit
The Leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg MP paid a visit to Flood & Covid hit businesses in Ironbridge this afternoon.
No stranger to Telford, having campaigned unsuccessfully to win The Wrekin seat back in the 2001 elections, Mr Rees-Mogg spoke to local business owners about the difficulties of coping with the floods and then the Covid outbreak.
Donna Byard of Vintage Corner told Telford Live "We sat and discussed the floods, how it hit us twice and how other businesses helped us to get back on our feet like new kitchen from Ironbridge kitchen interiors."
Donna also told Mr Rees-Mogg about the work by the council & the government schemes "The support from both Government and T&W Council in acting quickly to get the grants and furlough sorted that without, none of us would have re-opened."
The businesses are now facing new challenges "Our biggest issue now is the Wharfage being closed every weekend til October! It’s cuts the area in half and causes mayhem because it’s not a normal High St. It splits the towns areas but is having such a damaging impact on businesses this end trying to recover from everything they have already gone through."
Donna was please of the time taken to hear the views of small businesses in the area "I’m very grateful for the time they took to come and listen, it means a lot when we are struggling."
