‘Hope and Spring’ live online poetry reading

Omega, the National Association for End of Life Care charity is hosting an uplifting live online poetry event to raise funds for its loneliness support programmes.

Anna Dreda will read a selection of poems themed around ‘Hope and Spring’ on Tuesday 23rd February 2021 from 7:00-8:30pm. Tickets are available from Eventbrite for £5 each (plus an 80p Eventbrite fee); go to tinyurl.com/1v9oxacq.

Ticket holders will receive an email link to view the poetry reading live on Zoom.

Anna, who ran Wenlock Books for over 30 years, said she was inspired to get involved by an elderly friend: “My 93 year old friend and neighbour was widowed after 66 years of marriage a year ago. Since then she has been in a care home for six months and is now at home with a live-in
carer. My friend has osteoporosis and dementia and is now very vulnerable and misses contact with her family.

To provide care and support for people like her, and for her carer, is not just important, it is vital. I’m so happy to support Omega in this essential work they are doing to provide care and support.”

Anna is passionate about bringing people together who share a love of reading, and she continues to blog about books and poetry on her website, wenlockbooks.co.uk.

Omega is home to the Chatterbox Action Against Loneliness programme, a free enhanced telephone befriending service, and an equally popular free pen pal befriending project: A Letter from Louise. Demand for both programmes has increased significantly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Omega clients include family caregivers, former carers, the bereaved, the frail-elderly and people dealing with long term health conditions and end of life issues. Chatterbox and A Letter from Louise provide a vital lifeline to those with no-one else to talk to. Email chatterbox@omega.uk.net or aletterfromlouise@omega.uk.net for more information.
