A Bostin’ Tribute to Former Great Dawley Mayor

‘Randle House’ – A Bostin’ Tribute to Former Great Dawley Mayor and local name for New Dawley Town Hall Annex

Great Dawley Town Council are excited to announce that work is now complete on the Dawley Town Hall Annex; a much-needed facility for the community enabling local organisations to meet residents in person, locally and confidentially.

To add a more poignant gesture, the Town Council wanted to give the building a local name of ‘Randle House’ in honour of their former Mayor, Malcolm Randle.

Councillor Shaun Davies said, “Malcolm was at the heart of the Dawley community throughout his time as Councillor and Mayor for Great Dawley and having this building now ready for residents to access local services would have been very welcome news to him.”

Malcolm’s daughter Tanya Lloyd, grandaughter Kelly Dennis and grandson Joshua Vanstraaten were invited to have a personal observance of the opening where stories were shared of Malcolm’s Mayorship and all the great things he achieved in the local area.

Linked to Dawley Town Hall, the Annex has been transformed from a disused building to an exciting initiative that will give a real boost to the town thanks to financial support from several organisations.

The Town Council initiated the renovation with £25,000 and was then awarded £75,000 from Veolia Trust before hitting a delay back in 2019. Further funding was secured in the form of a £24,280 diversification grant from Telford and Wrekin Council; £25,000 from the Severn Trent Community Fund and £3,500 from Wrekin Housing Group which was used to fit out the centre for community use.

“It has been a long journey to get this far but we know it will prove invaluable to the community. We have already signed up groups including Healthwatch, HomeInStead, Recharge, Healthy lifestyles Team and many more key organisations are getting on board to use this new facility”

“The building has kitchen facilities, a meeting room and a private consultation area from which to conduct outreach work providing confidential support and advice to local people” Councillor Davies added.

An open day will be arranged in the next few months for organisations, residents, and groups to have a look around.

Groups started on Monday 11th October and upcoming sessions will be advertised via Great Dawley Town Council’s website www.greatdawley.org and social media pages.
