New book shop opens in July

The rejuvenation of a market town in Telford continues with the opening of a new bookshop in July.

On the back of levelling-up funds, which will see Telford & Wrekin Council take ownership of the market, and the expansion of Wellington Orbit, a number of new businesses are seeing Wellington as an affordable and popular location to grow.

The latest is The Book-ends, a book shop in Duke Street owned by Richard and Mercy Smartt who hope to bring not only the written word, but performance too.

Mercy & Richard met at a gig in London, and moved to Wellington two years ago. “It was great to have clean air and reasonable prices” said Mercy. Richard said “One of the things we really missed was a local bookshop and the culture of theatre making that was part of our story.”

Their recent crowd-funding campaign raised over £3000 to help them get started.
