Council reassures residents over tax bills

Many Telford residents woke up to the annual council tax bills landing on their doormats this morning, and took to social media to express their displeasure

The council made the following statement "The annual council tax bills are processed well in advance of the distribution date. Unfortunately the bills were already being delivered by the postal service when the scale of the Coronavirus pandemic became apparent and it was not possible to stop these going out.

We are very aware that the crisis will be causing hardship for many people and we are looking at a range of measures to help those in hardship and who need to make changes to payments during this difficult time. We will be writing to everyone next week to outline the offer of help.

In the meantime anyone concerned can call our council tax team on 01952 383838"

  • They just don’t care and if you don’t pay they soon send the bailiffs in heartless people who can send a bill out knowing people are out of work because of the virus

    • The Council would never send the Baliffs straight in. The really are a last resort. Please be assured that our staff are there to help if you have a problem and we pay Citizens Advice to help and advice people who are struggling to pay.

  • 80% of us are waiting to have to go into “self Isolation ” for two weeks , 20% are expected to act in isolation for 4 months and this council is hitting everyone with its council tax . Just stuff off . This council claims to have suffered austerity of 70 million and increased its’ borrowing by over 200 million. Where’s the concession for the council tax payers ? They are just full of crap, since this Labour Council has taken control of T&W in 2011 my council tax has risen from £1328 to now £1724.21 a year. Shower of excrement and for what ? Reduced services non existent unresponsive Councillors and bureaucratic apologist nay incompetent Council civil servants. Just look at the place , absolute doss hole.
