Nicker Blocker Story

A man who obstructed a West Mercia Police speed enforcement van at the roadside was ordered to pay a fine of £620 this week after appearing in court.

The offence took place in June 2021 on Wombridge Way, Telford when speed enforcement activity was taking place on the 40mph road. Enforcement activity takes place at this site as there is a history of speed-related collisions that have caused death or serious injury.

Shaun Taylor of Gordon Road, Telford used his vehicle to obstruct the speed enforcement officer during the course of their duties.

The case was in court on 3rd February and Mr Taylor pleaded guilty to resisting / obstructing a designated or accredited person and received a 12-month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay a fine of £620 to cover court costs and a victim surcharge of £22.

Superintendent Gareth Morgan, West Mercia Police said: “We will not tolerate obstructive behaviour towards our enforcement officers. Speed enforcement continues to be a priority for West Mercia Police and enforcement officers play a vital role in improving the safety of the roads by enforcing the limit and ultimately trying to reduce collisions and casualties. There are too many families that unfortunately know far too well the devastating consequences that speeding and collisions can lead to, so any behaviour that tries to obstruct or harass officers while carrying out their role will be dealt with robustly.”

  • Fuck me if the police and courts in Telford were so harsh on the paedophiles running the town might be a nice place to live.

  • Got to be one of the worst junctions in Telford. Hadley road onto wombridge way. A lot of crashes ( not accidents) there because you just have to put your foot down to pull out. You can wait ages there for a gap in the traffic. Needs traffic lights.

  • Maybe the police should concentrate on catching the pedophiles that they have willing let rape and abuse children over the last ten years.

  • Nice to see my well earned taxes are being spent so wisely. How about concentrating on the thieving bastards who stole our bikes? That is obviously far more important. Pathetic

  • If only they could prosecute people who cause accidents. Still no news on the lad who was drink driving ( caught on camera leaving pub ) then screeching up Trench Road on to Wombridge Road driving up it estimated between 60 – 70 mph then hits a taxi turning at a junction this taxi narrowly avoids hitting two pedestrians the car that is being drove goes of the road and causes damage to two other vehicles. Then he does a runner. Police know who he is they new within 48 hours. After 3 months he hadn’t been prosecuted. I still don’t think he has. Still no proper speed control on this Road neither.
